February 19, 2009 by Dana GTakin’ a bath!
February 11, 2009 by Dana GWe’ve finally gotten to the point where the baby doesn’t cry at bathtime! Of course, i don’t think I’d mind a bubble bath right now either! We have a baby bathtub, but the sink is about the perfect size right now (ignore the oral-b toothbrush in the background). It’s going to be so much fun to be able to get both boys in the bathtub at the same time, take a picture, and embarrass them when they are teenagers! For now, I’ll settle for a pic in the sink!
What we do when it looks like this:

We have been barraged with snow over the past month, to the point where somedays we can’t leave the house. In order to keep Deuce busy last Friday during a particularly nasty morning, we made cookies!
I had everything for peanut butter cookies without venturing outside. Deuce did a particularly good job mixing, minus the cracking of the eggs. He considers cracking eggs taking them in his tiny fingers and squeezing until they explode. (We always put the eggs in a separate bowl first, then I fish out the shells. It’s a work in progress.)
And no baking experience is complete without the obligatory ‘licking of the spoon’.
(He had to fight his dad for that one!)
And this is what the animals do when it snows:
Apparently hunting down snowflakes really passes the time.
Luckily for us, it’s a balmy 45 degrees today, and we can actually leave the house. I’m sure we’ll be locked in making cookies again at least once or twice before spring time rolls around!
Interesting email…
February 4, 2009 by Dana GWhen in England at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury [this is the lunkhead who recommended acceptance of certain elements of Sharia Law] if our plans for Iraq were just an example of empire building’ by George Bush.
He answered by saying, “Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young people into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return.”

Then there was a conference in France where a number of international engineers were taking part, including French and American. During a break one of the French engineers came back into the room saying “Have you heard the latest dumb stunt Bush has done? He has sent an aircraft carrier to Indonesia to help the tsunami victims. What does he intended to do, bomb them?” A Boeing engineer stood up and replied quietly: “Our carriers have three hospitals on board that can treat several hundred people; they are nuclear powered and can supply emergency electrical power to shore facilities; they have three cafeterias with the capacity to feed 3,000 people three meals a day, they can produce several thousand gallons of fresh water from sea water each day, and they carry half a dozen helicopters for use in transporting victims and injured to and from their flight deck. We have eleven such ships; how many does France have?”

A U.S. Navy Admiral was attending a naval conference that included Admirals from the U.S., English, Canadian, Australian and French Navies. At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a large group of Officers that included personnel from most of those countries. Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks but a French admiral suddenly complained that, ‘whereas Europeans learn many languages, Americans learn only English.’ He then asked, ‘Why is it that we always have to speak English in these conferences rather than speaking French?’ Without hesitating, the American Admiral replied ‘Maybe it’s because the Brits, Canadians, Aussies and Americans arranged it so you wouldn’t have to speak German.’

AND THIS STORY FITS RIGHT IN WITH THE ABOVE…
A group of Americans, retired teachers, recently went to France on a tour. Robert Whiting, an elderly gentleman of 83, arrived in Paris by plane. At French Customs, he took a few minutes to locate his passport in his carry on. “You have been to France before, monsieur?” the customs officer asked sarcastically. Mr. Whiting admitted that he had been to France previously. “Then you should know enough to have your passport ready.” The American said, “The last time I was here, I didn’t have to show it.” “Impossible. Americans always have to show your passports on arrival in France!” The American senior gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then he quietly explained. “Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on D-Day in ‘44 to help liberate this country, I couldn’t find any darn Frenchmen to show it to.”

Yeah Steelers!!!!
February 1, 2009 by Dana GHappy 1 month Birthday!
January 30, 2009 by Dana GI cannot believe it’s been a month already! Time is going by so fast! The baby is doing great and getting to be more alert everyday. We are getting back into the swing of things (sort of). Deuce is doing great at school, dad is working from home pretty much everyday, and I’m watching a lot more late night television (normal routine is fresh prince at 4:30 am, Roseanne and 5, wings at 6 and then sportscenter).
The picture above is a new receiving blanket we got as a gift from one of my mom’s friends who stopped for a visit. Homemade gifts are the best! I have to say that my favorite thing so far has been the big brother gift she brought today that she made. Check this out:
This is a hooded towel she made for big brother with the Steelers fabric sewn into it. You really can’t see the detail work on the letters, but you can tell she put a lot of time into it.
The best part about this is that it’s a full size plush towel. It’s not one of those tiny, thin hooded towels you buy at that baby store that really aren’t too effective in doing anything. Deuce loved it! In fact, in the middle of his shower tonight, he got mad at me because I didn’t have his towel ready. He made me go downstairs and get it instead of the plain blue one he was using.
Maybe this will be a good luck charm for sunday.
Go Steelers!
Baby’s first pair of shoes!
January 19, 2009 by Dana GA weekly update…sort of
January 18, 2009 by Dana GIt’s been a crazy week! It started with deuce having a 104 fever and continued with me getting it. I think it’s the sickest I’ve been since I’ve had kids. It didn’t make it any easier that the entire time I was sick, I was worried that the baby would catch it. Lucky for us, he didn’t and neither did his dad. To top things off, it got down to -10 here and stayed that way for a few days. So my eagerness to get out of the house for a few hours was quickly squashed. I’m not a fan of this weather. I will admit, it does look really pretty with the snow falling and the roads and trees covered in white, but after about 2 hours, I’ve had enough and I’m ready to get back to the mid 70’s. While we were at my parents house though, I did get a couple of pictures that turned out pretty nice.
When it’s that cold out, the birds seem to flock to the feeders at my parents house by the dozens. But they seem to get stage fright when they see a giant black lens staring at them through the window. I’m waiting for this gigantic woodpecker to show up so I can get a good picture of him, but he seems spookier than most. We’ll see how that goes…
I also got back to cooking, which I’ve strayed away from in the past few weeks here. Lucky for us, Matt and I made a good 2 dozen frozen meals we’ve been popping out and sticking in the oven. (I posted about that a few weeks ago-and if you know you’re going to be laid up for awhile, definitely do it!). Not that the meals aren’t good-but I wanted to get back to my old routine. So although my first meal wasn’t gourmet, the homemade mac and cheese and brownies were good! It is football season here, so last night a put on a pot of chili. (Penzey’s recipe if you get the book and wanna make it). If I’m feeling especially creative tonite, I might make some cornbread with jalapenos and bacon but I’m not making any promises:)
And of course, there are more baby pics that I’ve taken. Registered users only, blah, blah, blah.
